Are the Red Sox for Real
So far the 2016 Red Sox have been on a tear. Unexpected contributions from the likes of Jackie Bradley Jr and Travis Shaw have led to the Red Sox being in a tie for first of the AL East with the Orioles just past the quarter mark of the season. But will this success keep up or is it just a combination of hot bats and a fairly easy schedule?
Pitching: For a team with a record of 27-17 the red sox pitching so far this season has been sub par at best. Heralded Ace David Price has underperformed so far this season compiling a misleading 6-1 record to go along with his steep 5.53 ERA. On the bright side Price's last two starts he's given up a combined total of 3 earned runs and sox fans are hoping he keeps trending up. Surprisingly Rick Porcello has been pitching great as he currently is 6-2 with a sub 3.5 ERA. If the Red Sox are going to be legit they need Porcello and Price to keep up their form of late. Keep an eye on Joe Kelly as well, his last start on Saturday- first since a stint on the DL, he went 6 and 2/3 of no hit baseball before surrendering a hit to Juan "the coke can" Uribe. If Kelly can give this team a solid number 3 pitcher the Red Sox will be an extremely tough team to face come October.
Hitting: The bats have been en fuego to start the season. Jackie Bradley Jr. is batting .340 and is on a 27 game hit streak. The Large Father playing in his final season appears to have found the fountain of youth (possibly roids, but I'm not saying he is) and is tearing the seam off the baseball. Overall the sox have four hitters in the top 11 in the entire league in batting average( Bogarts (1), JBJ (2), Ortiz (4), and Hanley Ramirez (11)) this will not be something the sox can bank on as Ortiz and JBJ are both due for a slump. The sox offense is the best in the league right now and there are only a few lineups that can keep pace with the Sox.
Overall at the quarter mark of the season if you told me the sox would be tied for first and Bradley Jr would be on a 27 game hitting streak I'd tell you to go back to your shanties. If the pitching can stabilize and the bats stay hot the sox will remain afloat.
Prediction- 89-73 record first in the AL East, sox Cubs world series Cubs in 6.
