Harvey To Start Monday Despite Struggles
So by now everyone knows, Matt Harvey fucking sucks this year. He is 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA, second worst in the National League among all qualified starters. His velocity is down, his pitches don’t move and he looks flat out dejected.
I have two theories:
1. I read that he was and might still be on blood thinners due to his blood clot in the beginning of the year from holding in his piss. I am far (very far) from a doctor, but the side effects from blood thinners can slow you down. I mean the guy was an absolute ace last year and now he can’t pitch. It may be a far-fetched take, but its not impossible that the medication is what is hurting him.
2. Now for the more obvious outlook. He pitched 189.1 innings last year not including the postseason. He had Tommy John surgery in 2014. It is very possible his arm is just dead and he needs a break.
But as a win-now team, the Mets need Harvey. I need Harvey. Every Mets fan needs Harvey. That’s why I like what they are doing. Yes he has been horrendous, but I think putting him out there against a good White Sox team on Monday is important. His last start was a very high pressure, divisional game.
After getting rocked by the Nats all anyone is talking about is his problems. Now he is in the spotlight more than he was when he was striking everyone out. I hate being that guy, but his body language looks as if he just doesn’t give a shit. Of course he gives a shit, but he just isn’t showing it. I want to see a guy pissed when he does bad and amped when he does good. On Monday if he gives up a homerun, scream. But if he is the Harvey we know and love, he’ll be fist-pumping after his 8th strikeout.
I am praying he delivers, but If he fucks this one up send him down or put him on the DL.
