Warriors Look to Close it Out in 5
Warriors steal game 4 on the road in Cleveland, not only does this mean they’re up 3-1 and are a win away from winning the finals, but it means that we get a free Doritos taco from taco bell. Don’t be like me and go all the way to taco bell ask for a “free” taco then get to the next window and the lady is there with three tacos, then you realize that the free tacos aren’t available until June 21st from 2-6pm. So thanks taco bell, not only do you upset people’s stomachs, but now you’re misleading ads just pissed me off.
Ok, now that I’m done with that tangent its back to the finals. Curry came alive in game 4 and it was only a matter of time. Curry dropped 38 points and shot 54% (7-13) from three. Warriors went on to set an NBA playoff record 17 three’s in one game breaking the Cavs record of 16 set earlier this postseason. Barnes went 4-5 from downtown, Thompson added another 4 three’s, and Iguodala added two more. A big point in the game was when Anderson Varejao collected three offensive rebounds in the four minutes he played. Extending the possession for Golden State at the end of the third quarter was huge. In the end it was Curry closing out the game with 7 points going 3-4 from the floor. He also had help from Barnes who went 2-2 from deep adding 6 points.
Cavs drop this one at home and now need a game 5 win. With Love on the court in this series, the Cavs have not won. The one game he does not play the Cavs win by 30 points. It is pretty mind-blowing to me but would the Cavs be better off benching him? I know that seems crazy but hey the Cavs backs are against the wall and the one game they won was without Love. Kyrie and LeBron seem to play better when Love is not out there. They both dropped 30+ in the game 3 win without Love, and seem to be more aggressive and look to score more. Other players specifically JR stepped up when Love was not there adding 20+ points. Love is a great basketball player and they’re probably going to play him but I can’t help ponder the thought what if they bench him?
Onto the real stories that headline game 5. To start, Cavalier coach Tyronn Lue was fined $25,000 for criticizing the referees after game 4. Lue said, “He never gets calls,” talking about LeBron. Lets be real this just is not true, LeBron gets as much as anyone else. In game 3 LeBron did not pick up his first foul until the third quarter. Lue needs to cool his jets and realize he is playing one of the best teams in NBA history and does not need to blame the refs. When the Cavs loose this series they have nothing to be ashamed about, all they can do is play hard at this point and not roll over.
Draymond Green picks up a flagrant 1 foul after the game 4 win, and is now suspended for game 5. (He also played the most minutes of any Warrior in Game 4). The NBA went back and looked at the play between Green and LeBron and it looks as if Green flung his arm going for a “sack tap” on LeBron. This is Green’s second incident of intentionally trying to hit someone below the belt this postseason after giving Thunder center Steve Adams a good kick. Green is such a talented player in this league and needs to stop these antics. It’s a shame that he now has to sit out game 5 and is not going to be on the court when his team wins. I’m not defending Green here, he was wrong for what he did, but LeBron did start all of it. After pushing Green to the ground LeBron goes to step over him and that’s when Green stood up and the flailed his arm towards Lebron’s manhood. LeBron is not innocent in this. In my eyes stepping over someone who is on the ground is one of the most disrespectful things a player can do. I can see why Green was mad it just so happened if he did not go for LeBron’s junk he would not be suspended from game 5. Green is not a person who is going to take any BS from another player no matter who it is.
Now that Green is out for game 5, this does not change my prediction. I still believe the Warriors will win in 5. With Green out Iguodala will most likely start in his place. I believe guy’s like Bogut and Livingston will step up and perform in his spot. Bogut needs to step up and bring the defensive intensity that Green brings to every game. With Green suspended, Curry and Thompson definitely need to be on their game again. Warriors will miss Green’s defensive presence the most. The Cavs need to take advantage on offense crashing the boards and driving to the basket. I am expecting a shootout in game 5 and I believe both teams put up over 100 points. If the Warriors win tomorrow night the MVP is a HUGE question mark. It could all come down to who plays the best for the Warriors in game 5. This game could ultimately decide who wins the MVP.
