Browns Current QB Situation
The Browns currently have 5 quarterbacks on their roster. Josh McCown, RG3, Cody Kessler, Austin Davis, and Connor Shaw. My opinion about their situation is probably most popular one in that I think they need to start RG3. I think they would be crazy not to start him. I know his knee is shredded and that hes been ass lately and that he’s kinda a bitch but when he’s playing to the best of his ability, like his rookie year, he can ball. He brought the Redskins to the playoffs in his rookie year by throwing for over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns, all while rushing for 815 yards and 7 touchdowns. That’s a solid year for a quarterback not named Tom Brady.
On to McCown, he sucks. He’s so overrated. The guy played well for the Bears when Cutler got hurt a few years ago and everybody got so hard over him. If the Browns are a serious about trying to make their team better they need to play someone who isn’t over 30 and actually has some upside.
Cody Kessler is where this gets a little interesting. He’s a rookie and he’s not really that bad. I know the Browns like this kid a lot, but if they’re smart he shouldn’t play a down this year outside of preseason. Another big issue I have with this kid is he’s a USC quarterback. There has not been a good USC QB in the NFL since Carson Palmer. RIP the Sanchise and Matt Barkley. However, I think the best course of action for the Browns this year is to let Kessler develop and use this year as trial year for RG3. If he delivers, good, if he doesn’t, he’s all done and the Kessler era begins.
I love Austin Davis. For me, he’s one of those guys that got a chance had one good game and stole a piece of my heart. I believe John Gruden compared him to Drew Brees during his starter stint with the Rams. That was enough for me to want him to succeed. That being said, he will not start a game this season unless there are multiple injuries to their quarterbacks.
Connor Shaw also will not start this year. He was electric at South Carolina but that was because of his legs not his arm. Got high hopes for the guy but I don’t see it working out for him. He has said that he if he couldn’t hack it in the NFL he would join the military so he seems like a good guy.
