Wild 24 Hours of Soccer
The past 24 hours of soccer can only be compared to the excitement that comes with the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Lets dive in:
Sunday 8 PM: Argentina v Chile- In a rematch of last years Copa America Final Chile once again came out victorious. This game was crazy, Chile went down a man early as Diaz accumulated two yellows early on. Also in the first half Gonzalo Higuain missed a sure goal once again, if you are keeping track at home that is THREE blown chances by Higuain in Finals. Later in in the final stages of the first half Rojo got a straight red on a absolutely atrocious call. Yes the tackle was behind but Rojo got all ball, absurd.
Second half was comparable to watching paint dry. So the game went to Extra time and thats where the fun began. Romero made a huge save and then Argentina countered with Messi feeding a beautiful cross to Aguero that was denied by the outstretched hand of Bravo. Then came PK's.
Vidal's up first and Romero guesses correctly. Up walks Messi, everyone in the stadium and watching on TV thought sure fire goal. Messi walks up to the spot and booms the ball about 6 feet over the net, Argentina goes on to lose PK's 4-2.
Monday 1 AM: About to go to bed when I get an alert on my phone saying Messi has retired from international play. Initial thoughts on this was obviously shock but also I felt that this was a soft move by Lio. Yeah he's lost 4 major tournament finals, 3 in 3 years, but he's only 29 too much left in the tank. As I read more into the situation I discovered that Messi and the FA of Argentina are in a battle and this might be a ploy. He will be back I'm telling you.
Monday 12PM: Under dog Italy defeats Spain 2-0. From the start of Euro 2016 I told everyone that you never doubt Italy as they are best when doubted. The back line of Bonucci- Chiellini- Barzagli looks unbreakable and always good to see my boy Graziano Pelle putting one in. Germany is up next for Italy, Italy has never lost to Germany in an international tournament and we ain't gonna start Saturday.
Monday 3PM: By some weird force of nature the small country of Iceland population of 332,000 defeated England 2-1. This has to undoubtedly be the worst week in English history since we defeated their ass in the Revolutionary war.
For those who say soccer is boring I give you this, also if you watched GOT over the Copa Final last night you are a loser.
