David Wright to the DL...(Don't Cry Connor, You Promised You Wouldn't Cry!)
David Wright hit the DL today due to a herniated disc in his neck. Honestly just sad, sad news to hear about the Captain. First of all, David Wright is one of my favorite Mets of all time (and that's including greats like Bartolo Colon, Endy Chavez and Mo Vaughn). Honestly, he could hold the throne for me. I'm talking numero uno, the big cheese, NUMBA ONE (Insert Mike Francesa voice here). He's played 13 tough seasons for the Mets. When the Mets finished an abysmal 20 games under .500 in '04, David was there. When the Mets went to the NLCS in '06, David was there. And most importantly, when the Mets missed the playoffs for eight straight seasons before finally getting to the World Series last year, David was there. He's one of only four Mets captains all time along with Keith Hernandez (1987-89), Gary Carter (1988-89), & John Franco (2001-04). The Mets released that he will miss 6-8 weeks for his rehab. I truly believe the Mets will keep his baseball activity low until they need him to make a playoff push late in the season. He had issues with his spine most of last season, and the spine and neck are not areas to mess around with. David's 33 years young and still has four years left on his long term contract. Let's hope the Captain can get fully healthy so we don't have to see him crawling around like Herbert and Jesse the Dog when he's older.
