The NHL Went BANANAS Yesterday. Larsson Now taking Dumps in EDM.
Seriously. What the FUCK happened in the NHL yesterday afternoon? I mean, I can't recall anything like it in the history of sports. Not even MLB trade deadlines of years past can attest to what happened. The NHL went all ape shit even on NBA fans (eat shit LeBron).
I've been BEGGING for the Devils to make a move. Just to do SOMETHING to upgrade. I was sitting on my couch looking at Yankee tickets for the game last night against Texas (which I ended up going to, leaving in the bottom of the 8th and missing the Yabos and walk off in the 9th, sick). I get a text from my friend Brendan.
What crossed my mind at that moment, "Holy shit no way the Devils traded for arguably one of the best wingers in the league". It was true. Devils traded for Taylor Hall in exchange for Adam Larsson.
Thoughts on NJ/EDM Trade: Honestly, could not be happier. I have and always will be a huge Adam Larsson advocate. The dude has really shown up over the past 2 seasons. He wasn't able to do anything under former Devil Head Coach Peter DeBoer. Larsson has really shown a lot of growth in his play and is nothing but professional. The panzi "experts" and Oiler fans freaking out about trading their star for a defenseman. This trade did very well on both ends. Perfect match. Kinda similar to Brady and Gisele. Perfect marriage. Oiler fans will be very happy with Larsson. Logs 25-28 minutes a game against top lines. Hall is a beauty for the Devs. Can't wait to see him in red and black and back with Rico.
Following the victory laps around the house, I soon learned of the Weber-Subban trade. WTF. Insanity. BONKERS. Subban and his diving bullshit out of the Eastern Conference. This trade call was made into the NHL offices in NYC about 2 minutes after the Devils/Oilers trade.
Thoughts on NSH/MTL Trade: Uneasy. I get it. I really do. The NHL is a business and GMs and owners gotta do everything they have to do in order to win a cup blah blah blah. Shut it. This trade made no sense in my mind. Neither team is gaining anything. Subban and Weber are both of equal talent and both were loved in their cities. Subban had such a tie to Montreal with everything he's done for the community especially with the childrens hospital up there. Cool stuff. Weber signed a monster deal prior to the lockout and was the captain of the Preds; one of the more dangerous teams in the league. Subban was a fan favorite, loved Montreal, wanted to be there and wanted to play there. The same applies to Weber (not the biggest Shea Weber fan just because I think he's a huge prick). Whatever. Subban is out of the East. Taking his Olympic diving talents out West.
THEN Stammer re-signs with Tampa. All in a 36 minute span. Woah. Really was crazy. For the first time, the NHL had a stranglehold on the Twitterverse. People who hate hockey were talking hockey. And the NHL and their GMs basically giving a huge "F YOU" to the NBA by taking over Twitter and basically the entire sports world. I love it.
Thoughts on Stamkos 8/$68M: Good for Tampa. Stammer is a top 5 guy in this league when healthy and they get their captain back. He's nothing but class and handled the free agency period beautifully. Lock this guy up at the max amount of years due to the new CBA. Great signing by Stevie Y down in TB. Fans all over love this guy and he deserves this contract. Lightning have one of the better fan bases in the NHL despite being in Florida. Amile is packed each and every night and Stammer will go down as the best player in Bolts history. Just a matter of time till #91 is up in the rafters.
Side note: seriously though. Why would this guy even think about going to Buffalo? Is anything even up there besides some water falling down big ass rocks and some sick wings? Still find it kind of funny how he didn't go to the Leafs. They have no luck. Think its time for old man Lou to hang up the phones for good and call it quits. Thanks for the 3 Cups in Jersey but you're going to get nothing done in the 6. Give Drake a call, and if he knows what offside is, he's got the job. Drake as GM and Niki Minaj as Director of Pro Scouting. Sounds like an A+ organization right there. Throw Future and DJ Khaled behind the bench and you'll never find a more motivated team in sports.
Crazy day yesterday. Gets me real excited to October. Hockey can't come quicker. July 1st is around the corner. This will definitely be one of the crazier ones in recent memory.
