Philly Fans Show True Colors as Ryan Howard Has Bottle Thrown At Him
NY Post - The 36-year-old who once led the team to a World Series title has sharply declined over the years, with a contract running through 2017 serving as an anchor for a club mired in a slow rebuilding effort.
Howard’s downfall has never looked worse, batting .151 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs this year. According to Howard, that fan saw the first baseman as his statistics, as his contract, as his frustration — anything but as a person.
“I’ve done too much in this town to have that kind of stuff,” Howard told Philly.com. “If you want to yell out, ‘You suck,’ that’s whatever. But when you start throwing stuff, that’s when stuff gets personal.
“If someone throws something, we’re just supposed to sit there and wear it and get hit. Nah man, we’re human beings first and foremost. People get it twisted. They see the baseball stuff and they don’t see you as a human being. They see you as someone that just plays baseball.”
Typical Philly sports fans, such a scummy thing to do for a guy who once lead this team to a World Series victory. I don't care if it was 8 years ago, a championship is a championship and Howard is 2nd in franchise history in HR, and 3rd in RBI. Has he been brutal the past few years and immensely overpaid? Without a doubt, but it's not excuse for this kind of stuff to happen.
The way Howard handled this with the press was so stupid. Saying that this guy should be reprimanded and calling for further punishment is kind of soft. Honestly, if I were him I would have said something like, "I'd throw a bottle at me too." This guy has to feel bad he's getting paid so much and hitting just .151 this season. PLUS HE HASN'T PLAYED IN FIVE GAMES BECAUSE HE'S BEEN BENCHED. So hey Ry Guy, instead of moaning and worrying about this guy's punishment, why don't you watch some tape and hit the cages bro. Earn that $25 million you're owed this season, and let the organization whose paying you that fortune handle this situation. I'm not saying what this fan did was right, I'm just calling it how I see it.
