What's Up With These Bad NBA Players Getting HUGE Deals?

What's Up With These Bad NBA Players Getting HUGE Deals?

As the clock strikes midnight on July 1st, all you have to do is refresh your Twitter feed to see the latest and greatest offseason moves. However, last night was a little bit different. I noticed that a TON of really mediocre players are getting BANDS throw at them, and I find it very perplexing.

I guess we'll start with a list:

Timofey Mozgov - Lakers, 4YR $64M

What are the Lakers smoking?

$16M a year for a guy who didn't even play in the playoffs this season for the Cavs. That is BIGTIME money for a dude who averaged just 6.3PPG in the 2015-2016 season. Let's put this in perspective for you, he's getting paid more next year than DeMarcus Cousins, Roy Hibbert, Tristan Thompson, Andrew Bogut, and Al Jefferson. All of the guys mentioned above are better players than Mozgov, which again begs the question for the Lakers, what are you smoking?

Joakin Noah - Knicks, 4YR $72M

This just is not the answer for the Knicks, and saying they overpaid would be a colossal understatement. Whether D Rose already swooned the front office into throwing this kind of money for him, or they are really just that trigger happy and desperate for something. Nevertheless, this deal is extremely counter intuitive for the New York Knicks, and Noah will not help them get back in the postseason, never mind contend.

I'll also leave this here.

Nic Batum - Hornets, 5YR $120M

Alright this is literally preposterous. You're telling me that this dude is making $33M more than Andrew Luck? Give me a break!

If anything, this signing goes to show how brutal the NFL Players Association is. How are you letting these mediocre NBA guys have a fatter wallet than your most perennial players and marketable faces? Not mention there's this thing called CTE that has gained some traction in recent years. The NFL is going to lose their best athletes, especially young and up and coming ones, to other sports that are less dangerous. If you're not going to pay up for a sport that poses an imminent threat, I guarantee you the NFL will suffer in years to come.

Nic Batum got $120M!?!?!?! WHAT PLANET ARE WE LIVING ON??
