The Night Of - Part 3 Preview

Nasir 'Naz' Khan is a Pakistani-American college student living in Queens, NY. Using his father's cab one night, Naz meets a young woman. But what starts out as a fantasy ends up a nightmare, as he's arrested for murder shortly after leaving. Following an interrogation by detective Dennis Box, Naz asks for a lawyer--and finds one in world-weary defense attorney John Stone.

For those of you who don't know, this is new HBO show is must-see TV. Its received A1 ratings and rightfully so, I highly recommend.

So in episode 2 we saw Naz get charged at the arraignment with a whole list of terrible shit. It even had the thugs in the courtroom gasping.

This meant he would be sent to Rikers Island, a living hellhole.

This jail in the middle of New York is touted as the "smelliest place on earth," inmates have said that the smell alone could torture you. The inmate also mentioned that it smelt like a mixture of "sewage, fertilizer, and death." There is also no central air, and temperatures tend to reach the mid-90s in the summertime.

We left off with Naz being dropped off at Rikers Island for good, until the trial for his life ensues. His Defense Attorney John Stone, is a total hack job of a lawyer, but perhaps the most interesting character. Naz obviously does not have the money to hire OJ's dream team, so this is essentially what he has to settle for. Superstar NYPD Detective Box thinks there is no doubt that Naz killed the girl that night, and it's pivotal for something to come up that proves Naz's innocence.

In my opinion, the best thing Naz has going for him is who he was before all of this. A good student, someone who has never been in trouble with the law, and the fact that he is the least quintessential homicide suspect ever.

Part 3 tonight should answer some key questions as to how Stone will be able to build a case to the jury. Any glimmer of hope, or shred of evidence that makes the prosecution at least think "what if he didn't do it?" is a win for Naz. Until then, expect to see a whole lot of heinous things take place during his stay at Rikers. Tune in at 9PM to see what happens.
