What are the Yankees options?
With the trade deadline coming up what are the Yankees options? As I see it they only have two options. Either sell, or stick with what you got and see if the pitching and hitting come around enough to get them to the postseason.
If the Yankees sell who will go and what will they be looking for? The Yankees biggest question is whether to keep their best hitter Carlos Beltran. Beltran’s contract is up at the end of they year and if a team that is in a playoff race needs a veteran outfielder and a guy that rakes in the postseason, they should give up a good amount for Beltran.
If the Yankees sell Beltran the way I see it, they’re planning for seasons ahead (basically tanking this season). Other guys that could be on the move are Ivan Nova, and the stretches are CC, A-Rod, and Tex.
Ivan Nova’s contract is up at the end of the year and the Yankees just got back Adam Warren as a spot starter/long reliever. If the Yankees can get a young pitching prospect for him, I think they’ll jump on the opportunity.
Onto the dead weight/contract suckers for the Yankees. A-Rod and Tex are nothing short of miserable this year, and the Yankees would love to just dump them. The only positive for Tex this year is his glove, and I believe he’s one of the best first baseman defensively in the league. A-Rod has his popularity and being 4 home runs shy of 700, the only problem is no one knows when he is going to play. Fans that want to see A-Rod are not coming to the game because the guy barely plays. If the Yankees can manage to get anyone to bite on these two players it would be a miracle.
The veteran CC had a great start to the season and has been a bit shaky of late, if a team wants him I believe the Yankees will look into it but they’re more focused on trying to get ball clubs to bite on Nova. CC’s contract is up in 2018.
Also do not be surprised if Yankees top INF prospect Jorge Mateo is on the move. The Yankees have already suspended him for behavior, and just went out and got the Cubs #2 INF prospect.
To sum it up these are the guys that could be on the move before the deadline. If the Yankees are playing for the postseason expect Beltran to stay a Yankee. If they sell it may be a waiting game for next season to really turn things around, or even a waiting game for Bryce Harper in 2019.
