Red Sox Stay Quiet At Deadline
We made a move for a lefty specialist in Fernando Abad. That’s it, and I’m pretty happy about it honestly. We didn’t trade any of our big prospects and Mookie and Xander are still on the team, that’s all that matters to me. Does our pitching suck right now? Yes. Do we need help there? Absolutely, but any trade we would’ve had to do would’ve ended up hurting us in the long run. Every team in the league with an ace they’re wiling to would’ve wanted at least one of our big prospects and an outfielder in return and that’s just too much to ask. The players we have right now are the future of the Red Sox.
The only question I have is, should we have traded Jackie Bradley Jr.? There’s a risk both ways. The first being that we didn’t trade Jackie while his value is through the roof and he ends up sucking next year. He has been bad in the major leagues historically so if he were to fall off next year I wouldn’t be completely surprised. The second risk, which I think would’ve been more dangerous, is that we trade him and he plays filthy for another team. He has played ridiculous this year this. His defense has always been insane and his arm is one that should never be run on, but now that he can hit he’s a top center fielder in baseball. He also has a sweet spot in my heart because he looks like the man and that video of him throwing a ball from home plate into the bleachers in center is bananas, so I would’ve been especially upset if we lost him. Lets also not forget he was a top prospect, and I think it just took him a little longer to put it all together.
